Sts. Peter & Paul Church Re-allocation during the works of the Airport building (July 1997)

Since 1996, 17 archaeological areas have been excavated at the airport site and all findings are protected according to the instructions of the 2nd department of Pre-historical and Classical Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture. The Archaeological Laboratory, which was established on site, was used for cleaning, maintaining and classifying the findings. Replicas of archaeological findings are placed in the 4 entrances of the departure hall of the Main Terminal Building.

AIA sponsored the publication of the archive book "Mesogaia - History and Culture of Mesogaia in Attica", honouring the long and significant history of the airport's region. Through the 326 pages of the volume, which are illustrated with numerous colour vintage photos, treasures of the ancient and Byzantine era are presented to the public for the very first time. The volume concludes with a presentation of the new Athens International Airport.

Five telephone cards have been issued which depict photographs from life in Mesogaia (traditional outfits & St. Peter & Paul church).

The preparation of the publication of the Zagani Hill excavation is ongoing while AIA is in close contact with the Ministry of Culture (2nd Department of Classical and Prehistorical antiquities).
